An Origin Myth
Like all good internet content, MTB Diaries started out as the ramblings of a madman. Rides taken, things seen, all wonderful and amazing, of course.
But most exciting were sideline scribblings over the trails not yet taken, places only heard about, fleeting reveries of fat tire dreams that might still be realized. Pretty soon organizing fascinating possibilities of travels all over the globe became the raison d’etre!
So, the Diaries celebrate what’s been done in the spirit of what will be done. By you, by me, by someone. Whether near or far, familiar or foreign, one good ride deserves… another good ride! And a website (that tries) to keep track of at least a sliver of all the potential out there.
Ride It While You Can
Visit a foreign country or rediscover what lies just beyond your own backyard. Plan, prepare, and DIY the whole deal. Or treat yourself to a fully-supported mountain bike adventure.
Just make sure to travel, ride, and see the world, if you want to and while it can be done. Our research shows, conclusively, that it’s a good priority in life.
Mountain Bike Travel, Trips, and Tips
So, that context established, MTB Diaries will now endeavor to feed and feature for you the finest forays, near and far, to be found on fat tires.
Bikes and gear are a means to an end: most of all we love the mountains, the forests, the deserts, and the trails and the towns where we ride our mountain bikes. And, of course, the wonderful people who help make dreams on bikes come true and stay true to themselves while doing it.
Accordingly, here are our themes (some realized, some aspirational, less bike reviews more power of place):
- Share stories about amazing trips and adventures near and far (inspire)
- Promote expert knowledge of different mountain bike destinations (educate)
- Compare and contrast different types of mountain bike riding and events (inform)
- Curate resources for mountain bikers looking to make a trip happen (refer)
- Assist communities, including tour companies, trail builders, activist groups, land managers, and others in getting the word out about mountain biking opportunities (socialize)
- Create a space where people can list and find MTB-specific gear (bikes, vehicles, racks, etc.) on the sharing economy (outfit)
Jump On In
We are primed to partner with all manner of people and organizations to deliver on the above. Get in touch.
As you’ll see it’s an imperfect and part-time work in progress around here. It likely always will be, and that’s all good. Regardless of the state of affairs — welcome!
